MKT1003X review (NUS)

DISCLAIMER: firstly, i am not a professional writer, so if there are mistakes in my language, move on. secondly, the review is mostly based on opinions, so i would advise you to google for more reviews to get a diverse take on the modules you are interested in. thirdly, module details change every semester, so do not expect every assessment will stick. last but not the least, i will not talk about grades. hope this is useful for you, cheers.

MKT1003X: Marketing

what do you learn?
well, for starters, you learn marketing.. duh, lol. yeah, really, hell lot of concepts and knowledge on marketing. level 1000 modules then to be similar. the class would love to pump in all the foundation knowledge, hence the extensive amount of information learned.this module teaches you the basics of marketing such as SWOT analysis, consumer buying process, advertising, supply chain, market segmentation and many more. pretty interesting module to take but revision wise can be rather tiring and tedious.

how are you being graded?
like any other usual business modules, CAs play quite a role in your final grade as well. in this case, your CAs come from group project, individual report, subject pool, tutorial participation and finals. for group project, you are expected to come up with a report before presenting near the end of the semester. individual report is relatively manageable. subject pool, in case you have never heard of this term before, is you participating in survey experiments conducted in the school of business to earn your marls. talk at least once in each tutorial for the participation part.

my take on this module?
interest is very important when it comes to me deciding which modules to take and of course i will go back to it at the end of the course. personally, i find this module rather interesting and somewhat useful in helping me to understand the market out there a little. furthermore, the statistics field is venturing into marketing in recent years.. so who knows.. my major might just be useful in marketing world someday. at least i can say i have prior marketing knowledge. the CAs and finals are manageable i guess.. not too easy nor too difficult anyway.

advices?
pay attention to tutorials and do take mock test papers or past year papers seriously. tutorials can allow you to gain insights in tackling marketing questions and understanding the topics covered. mock practices gear you up for the finals and also help you pick out areas you lack clear understanding in. subject pool is easy marks.. go do those tasks as soon as possible. don’t wait for a later date then start to hunt for subject pool to do.
